January 21, 2005 - The Third Annual USC AGSA Banquet was THE place to be on the night of January 21st. An unprecedented 530 guests filled the Deukmejian Grand Ballroom at Ararat Home to network, dine, and, dance. Former LA County District Attorney Robert Philibosian emphasized the importance of unity among Armenians and described how the Ararat Home itself was constructed thanks to the cooperation of numerous Armenian individuals and organizations. The AGSA’s community efforts were also highlighted when the Chair of the Davidian Mariamian Educational Foundation and the President of Urartu University thanked AGSA and its members for their tireless work and charitable donations. Finally, Artash and Aram Asatryan and Armenchik provided the beats to dance the night away. What an unforgettable way to begin 2005.

December 2004 -
The AGSA crew hit the slopes of Mammoth Mountain for the
third year in a row, bringing our unique Armenian spirit to
the town of Mammoth Lakes over the weekend of December
17th. Old friendships were rekindled and new ones were
forged as we shared fun in the snow during the day. The
evenings were spent laughing and dancing in our cabins and
going out on the town together. It was unanimous – a great
time was had by all.

December 4, 2004 -
It was a cold and drizzly night when about 100 friends
gathered on December 4th for the AGSA December Social. The
cozy Notte Luna hosted us for a third time, with everyone
coming together for good conversation over enlivening
drinks. Even the rain and the prospect of final exams
couldn’t dampen our spirits, as the evening heated up when
our DJ started playing excellent beats and the dancing took
over.

October 30, 2004 -
The second installment of the USC AGSA Monthly Brunch brought together 25 students and professionals on October 30th for conversation and fraternizing. Professor Richard Dekmejian joined us to discuss the importance of Armenian involvement in the American political process and to highlight the progress of USC's Armenian Studies Institute. The Institute will host a fundraising gala on Feb. 6, 2005. Look for more information to come. Overall, another great morning spent together sharing information and getting to know one another better.

September 25, 2004 -
The USC AGSA Saturday Brunch held on September 25th at the Dish in La Cañada was a tremendous success. Our first-ever member meeting witnessed over 25 of L.A.’s finest graduate students and professionals assembling to strengthen social ties and further common interests. Sentiments ran high as AGSA advisor, Professor Richard Hrair Dekmejian, welcomed participants. Professor Dekmejian challenged students and professionals to lend their efforts to the establishment of the Institute of Armenian Studies at USC this year. AGSA Chair, Armen Margarian, highlighted AGSA fundraising efforts and goals for assisting scholarship programs and organizations in the Diaspora and our homeland. “People wanted to be there and everyone had a good time. That’s the AGSA difference,” said two-year member and executive, Yervand Khoranian. We thank all of you who made this event a memorable one and invite everyone back every fourth Saturday for “Saturday Brunch.”

The AGSA held a social mixer at Restaurant Halie with all proceeds going to Urartu University of Phychology & Practical Sociology in Yerevan. However, instead of asking for monetary donations, we asked members to bring textbooks and supplies to help our friends at Urartu. Even with a less than expected turnout, we were able to collect two large boxes full of supplies thanks to your generous donations.

|
|
|
|
January 23, 2004 -
The USC AGSA outdid itself once again with its Second Annual Black-Tie Banquet. An estimated 480 guests filled Ojakh Le Foyer Banquet Hall to hear the wise words of the Honorable Alice Altoon and her husband Ronald Altoon, dine on scrumptious cuisine, and dance the night away to great entertainment provided by Mais and his band. As it did last year, AGSA will use the funds raised from the banquet to benefit scholastic and community outreach programs in the Homeland and Diaspora.

various industries gathered at the elegant Pasadena Museum of California Art to
exchange information, sample appetizers, and enjoy Armenian wine. Some of the
distinguished guests who spoke inspiring words to the audience included Kirk
Cartozian, a USC MBA student and the new Mayor of the City of Downey, and

April 5, 2003 -
Over 50 friends and scholars joined us at Brand Park for a Saturday afternoon of BBQ Kabob, great people, fancy cars, California sunshine, football and dodgeball, the way Saturdays should always be. The only reason we left was it was eventually too dark to bat each other with a dodgeball anymore!

The AGSA/Kotayk Nights event broke records at Maurizio's: the owner later mentioned that was the largest crowd at his venue ever. Over 460 scholars and professionals from all over the Western United States convened at the first-ever AGSA Dinner & Dance at Anoush Banquet Hall. Mark Geragos, Raffi Hamparian, and Consul Valery Mkrtoumian, as our graduate advisor Professor Dekmejian introduced the guests. Also, over 2 dozen Southland associations and clubs were represented at what was the first ever banquet of its kind. September 30, 2002 -
Hundreds turned out this foggy day to watch professional musicians play time-honored dance ballads, and enjoy the ethnic food, pastries and beverages. Graphic displays of Armenian monuments and traditions were shown and pamphlets were passed around. A significant portion of the gathered crowd consisted of non-Armenian students, much to the cheer of the AGSA & ASA, who cosponsored the event. Stay tuned for more info on Spring Semester’s Culture Day, which promises to be the best one yet!
